Editorial policy

Practice questions are only useful if you can trust them. This is how we write, check and maintain every question.

How questions and guides are written

Our practice questions and study guides are written with the help of AI (Anthropic's Claude) from public sources: the ICD-10-CM classification and its Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, published by CDC/NCHS and CMS. The current ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines are given to the AI in full when it writes ICD-10-CM content. We never copy or adapt questions from certification bodies, books, flashcard sites or other prep providers, and we never publish “recalled” exam questions.

Automatic checks before publication

A question is published only if it passes every check:

These checks catch most mistakes, but they are not a substitute for review by a credentialed coder, which our questions have not had yet. Treat them as practice, check anything important against your own codebooks and guidelines, and tell us when something looks wrong.

Annual updates

ICD-10-CM changes every October 1. Questions are checked against the code set in effect (currently FY2027) and withdrawn or rewritten when the code set changes.

CPT® content

CPT® is a registered trademark of the American Medical Association. Our questions refer to CPT® codes by number only. We don't reproduce AMA code descriptions or guideline text, and every explanation is written in our own words. Keep your own current CPT® codebook open, just as you would in the exam. CPT® codes change every January 1, and affected questions are withdrawn until they're re-reviewed.

Found a problem?

Use “Report an issue” under any explanation. We review reports within seven days and fix or withdraw the question.
